"Everyday is Black History Month" is a series of events organized by the Self Help Hunger Program at Jasper P. Driver Plaza in North Oakland. This iteration commemorates the delayed emancipation of Black Americans from slavery in the state of Texas (In 1865, the Texas Governor "failed" to enforce the emancipation proclamation for 3 years after it took effect).
This event celebrates Black culture beyond the month of February by promoting Black artists, vendors and by providing the community access to resources offered by local nonprofits and social justice activists.
Following the legacy of the Black Panther Party, "Aunti" Frances Moore, the visionary of the Self Help Hunger Program, sees unity through food justice. “We don’t just feed the homeless, we feed the Hungry''. This is our motto, along with the 10 Point Program Platform of the Black Panther Party that has guided and has been enforced for over 15 years of serving the people.
